We wanted to let everyone know about a new technology platform we are working on called Drone Cloud. Once complete, it will be a cloud-native SaaS solution that will allow connecting drones to the cloud, planning drone missions, processing data with machine learning models, and all sorts of new industry-specific applications.
We decided to build a new cloud platform for a few reasons. First, running machine learning workloads in the cloud can scale much better and we will not be limited by the onboard computing on the drones. Second, it will allow us to do some pretty interesting things like push updated software over the air to drones and release new machine learning models.
This doesn’t mean we’re not working on onboard AI. On the contrary, we are continuing to build onboard capabilities and train models that will run on the drones themselves.
